I’m supporting Azure SQL for an eCommerce client. We migrated them from on-premises into Azure to gain efficiency through scalability and redundancy. Moving SQL into Azure was the biggest challenge and required outsourcing to get it done (this is where Third Tier can come in handy).
Recently I received an interesting email from Azure, letting me know that Azure SQL had some suggestions for the database.
I’m the defacto SQL admin for this, but I’m no SQL expert (just a regular old SMB IT Pro) so the prospect of going into the database and creating indexes for tables was a little bit daunting. After talking with the client and doing some reading. I was ready.
So I click on the Review and apply recommendation button in that email and something wonderful happened. Azure offered to do the change for me. All it needed was my approval. OK, so yes it said Review and Apply but I was still really expecting to have to shoulder the bits myself.
Instead I have this in my portal. A list of recommended improvements at the top and a status of the indexing operations that I’ve approved thus far.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Azure SQL team for creating this just for me. As a non-SQL professional it allows me to use simple click to manage tools to improve the database performance for my client.
Bravo! Azure SQL! Bravo!
About Third Tier
Established in 2008, Third Tier only works for IT Professionals by providing them with access to advanced support services. No one can know it all these days, so we give IT pros a place to go to get the hands on support they need in areas they normally don’t work in or problems they’ve never encountered. We also work on projects, fix their accounting practices and do many, many migrations and other installations. Our staff covers a wide range of technologies.
