Dave Shackelford loves helping people, and has a hard time passing up a challenge. He’s happy to approach his engagements as mentoring projects, when appropriate, and occasionally shows up at conferences to talk about Exchange migrations, Powershell and topics on Active Directory. He began his technical career in 1997 teaching MCSE courses and later moonlighted as an adjunct college English professor while working as a server engineer for Lexis Nexis during the dot-com boom. He has been with ThirdTier since its start in 2008 and has closed more tickets than he can count. Dave likes to keep things exciting as far as the projects he’s working on and the locations he’s working at. While he usually works from the Seattle area, he also regularly does projects in greater Los Angeles, Toronto, and west Africa.
When he’s not working on projects, he’s being a dad and a husband, a board gamer and a beer brewer, a poetry reader and theology muller, a kimchi preparer and crockpot hatcher.
Dave has been working with Exchange and Windows servers for a long time. He got his first MSCE on NT in 1997, his CCNA in 2000, and was a Microsoft Exchange MVP from 2004 to 2011. He was a contributing author to books on Windows 2000 and SBS 2008 and tech edited many others. He created the Pluralsight/TrainSignal Exchange 2007 Administration and SBS 2008 courses. He’s adept with all versions of Exchange, very familiar with Azure and Office365, handy with AD and usually able to make any firewall do his bidding.
